Diamond Education: The Radiant Cut Diamond
Combining the elegant Emerald cut shaped diamond with the brilliance of the round cut diamond the radiant cut diamond brings squares and rectangles back to the diamond ring. The radiant cut has trimmed edges. This cut, created in 1977 by Henry Grossbard, was designed to maintain the beauty of each different type of diamond, while still creating something altogether different from anything available at the time.
Polish and symmetry are two important aspects of the cut. The polish grade
describes the smoothness of the diamond's facets, and the symmetry grade refers
to alignment of the facets. With poor polish, the surface of a facet can be
dulled, and may create blurred or dulled sparkle. It may constantly look like it
needs to be cleaned. With poor symmetry, light can be misdirected as it enters
and exits the diamond.
